Poetry of Kansas

A rocket scaled the terraces of night,
   And yet,
   Failed to reach the parapet.

I told a noble-hearted friend of mine
   That he,
   Though great, far greater yet would be.

He rose as did Acestes arrow rise;
   He burned,
   And burning, into ashes turned.

He rose, and rising blazed, and burned away,
   And yet
   He failed to reach the parapet.
