Poetry of Kansas

The North Side.

LONG years ago, one bitter night,
    A storm broke on the fold;
It touched my breast with its chilling blight
    And left it seared and cold.
Some mellow days the sun comes out
    And sooths the old time smart;
But patches of snow still cling about
    The north side of my' heart.
