UNFEELING world, whose moistless eyes ne'er weep,
Nor gives a word in sympathy so sweet; Soften thy hard, unyielding heart of stone, Nor think to share the bliss of life alone. Strew flowers o'er the flinty path of life And keep man's heart more young, and rich, and rife; Rob not the earth of every blooming flower, The innocence of youth's sweet dewy bower. But loose thy stony heart that never felt, Let feeling love, its icy bands now melt; As time leaps through the portals of our night, Leap forth into a universe of Light! Bless life with joys on every land and sea, Short here the hours that prove her destiny; Make glorious the hope of man to see The goodly hand of great Divinity. Then easy shall the path so bright and clear Be to the weary ones now fainting here; While life and hope shall give a perfect glow To mortals burdened by a common woe. __James A. DeMoss |
