"A little candle, shining in a darkened valley, hath its place."
- There was need of candles, so He set them everywhere:
Flickering ones and faint ones, brave ones and fair.
Each to banish darkness in its tiny, circled space:
- A little candle, shining
In a darkened valley,
Hath its place.
-
Steadily and brightly, or fitfully and dim,
Timidly or boldly ___ they all are known to Him.
In a great world's darkness that they lighten by His grace,
- A little candle, shining
In a darkened valley,
Hath its place.
-
Far lights and high lights, stately lights and tall;
Hesitant and half-lights ___ yet His hand holds them all.
And there, among the gallantest that burn before His face,
- A little candle, shining
In a darkened valley,
Hath its place.
